What is the scope of this document?[]

This document deals with the role of the federal government with respect to the 2010 Winter Olympic games held in Vancouver / Whistler, BC. For Olympic funding for athletes please see Olympic funding for athletes

Why is this an issue[]

Vancouver is the third Canadian city to host the Olympic games. Montreal and Calgary have both held the Summer and Winter games and in both occasions the federal government had paid for a large portion of building construction.

How much should Ottawa pay?[]

The Government of Canada should be responsible for 50% of any cost overruns related to the 2010 games. Construction and Security costs have risen by a fair margin within the last year and considering Ottawa's role in obtaining the bid and the economic gains it will bring to Canada as a whole Ottawa should take at least a 50% share.
